Meet Diane Tibbitts

My Professional Work

Hi, I'm Diane! Pleased to meet you!

I was trained as a social worker and clinical counselor. I have worked in community mental health services and then in private practice for 36 years, using a combination of cognitive-behavioral strategies, solution-focused strategies, and some existential/Jungian approaches. I have extensive training and experience in the treatment of chemical dependency, particularly codependency and family issues, as well as in trauma resolution, particularly in healing trauma from childhood. It is deeply rewarding to me to be asked to assist someone in moving forward in their life.

Since 1993 I have been licensed in the State of Oregon, and am qualified to supervise newer counselors in meeting the requirements for licensure. If you are interested in supervision, please .

My own journey has been one of developing the patience, acceptance, kindness, and perseverance to meet the challenges of living that we all experience in one form or another. To those ends, I have been doing mandala art and coloring for three years and have found it to be a wellspring of insight leading to deeper places within the self, and aiding in the healing process. It seems particularly effective for times of transition and when there is a desire to have a deeper spiritual connection.

In my private life, I enjoy reading, writing poetry and short stories, sewing, quilting, and paper crafting. I like to dance, listen to music, watch movies, travel and learn about different cultures, and I love sampling good food and wine.

My Artistic Work

Paper Mandala by Diane Tibbitts

Art and creating original fabric or paper pieces has been a joyful focus for many years. Even as a child I found joy and peacefulness in the act of creating something new, and I continue to find beauty and inspiration everywhere. My paper and quilt pieces may incorporate Asian or mandala-like themes, or be more whimsical or inspirational. Through art I find myself transformed, and I hope that it also has a transforming effect on those who view it.

Meet Stephen 'Cap' Tibbitts

Hi, I'm Cap! Pleased to meet you!

Please call me 'Cap'. That is a nickname I was given when I was born and I am most comfortable with it. I earned my Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Montana in 1974 and have been a licensed psychologist since 1976. My clinical work is largely cognitive-behavioral with gleanings from various other disciplines. I also do psychological evaluations for persons with disabilities.

I work mainly with individuals, but enjoy seeing couples. My practice is co-located with Howard Davol, Ph.D. The office phone number is 541-772-7068, and I am on most insurance panels.

My personal interests include dancing, bonsai trees, origami, and making diamond willow walking sticks. I enjoy traveling and spending time at the Oregon Coast, and we have two long-haired dachshunds who remind me every day how much they love for us to go on walks through our neighborhood!
